This book felt like much more than a memoir. It was one thing after another, a hard reality for an individual and a family, painted real and non-exaggerated, yet hard to believe! The story drew me in from the very start, and to read about Jemal turning his life around, bouncing back through each obstacle, and meeting each challenge put before him is truly inspiring. I found much more than irony in the way the author illustrated going from an environment of illegal drugs, in a city like Chicago, to a lifestyle where selling legal drugs is ultimately the way out. I was inspired by his will, determination, and perseverance. So many young men living in the midst of drugs and violence in the inner cities have given up, because they cannot see a way out. They, and the people concerned about changing their reality, should all be told this story.Product details

This book brought back memories of living in Chicago and Peoria. It really showed the trials and growth of a young man who turned so many negatives into positives. This was very inspire! Great book!
Excellent way to spend free leisure time in continuing my mental goals of reading a book a month to expand my memory and reading skills.
Simply amazing story from start to finish about an incredible man who throughout many challenges always found a way to focus on his love for his family.
Mr. Gibson lays his life experiences bare for the world to see and in so doing he gives us an opportunity to learn some very valuable life lessons. The unfoloding of his life story though very complex is told in a smooth and easy to follow rythm. I found it difficult to seperate myself from the story and consequently I experienced many of the emotional highs and lows with the characters. I must attribute this to Mr. Gibson's willingness to open up and let us see into each of the individuals hearts. I have completed my second reading and I am still trying to fully understand the source of his strength and conviction.
I suspect that one day this will be a movie but I doubt if anyone can convey to the screen what Mr. Gibson has shared in this magnificiently told life event. I have encouraged all of my friends to purchase and read this book. Thanks Mr. Gibson for sharing your story with me. A must read, especially for parents!
